A B+ on graduate transcript

Recommended Posts

Hey

I am in a graduate program in the Department of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Because of Health issues, I had to write makeups and cram my course work along with my research. As a result of my bad health, everything became hectic, and worse. I think i might end up with a B+ in one graduate course, and I'm quite worried about it. I understand that that U of T has a cutoff of A- for graduate students but I don't know what to do now. Would my application be automatically rejected or flagged? Do i have a valid explanation for the mark?

thank you

Actually the cutoff for graduate students is, I believe, not a cutoff at all rather grad students have to reach a min of 3.00 GPA (IP or OOP). Rather the decisions are usually based on graduate productivity (i.e. publications). Hope that helps. I have an MPH where my degree was project/thesis/practicum based therefore not alot of publications available to be had in program...

From the U of T FAQ:

"Will I be at a disadvantage if I am in a course-based graduate program where I have no publications?

No. More weight will be placed on the course marks. Generally, an A- average in graduate courses is considered competitive. Students are still required to send a CV, an up-to-date transcript (if applicable), and the additional letters of reference. "

So as long as you have an A- average you are fine.

Note: this only applies to course-based masters
