dentalhopeful
Are there any chapters in "schaum's outline of biology" (for anyone who has used it) that we do not need to know for the biology section? Or are there any chapters that goes into alot more depth then necessary?
dmd2012
Hey, I have read the book inside out. I took the DAT and from what I know from experience and from fellow friends who used this book, chapters 21 to 33 (or the last one) are in way too much detail. Reading those is a waste of time. Kaplan is enough for the Taxonomy/Evolution things... other than that Kaplan is useless. Overall this book is unorganized but on the Actual DAT, you may encounter probably 2-3 questions that this book might pertain to this book but any Biology student could answer those qs without this book. dentalhopeful
So are you saying that this book is a poor study guide for the bio section?
dmd2012
overall yes! However, if you want to prepare, reading the first 11 chapters is extremely helpful. Do Schaum's before bedtime or when you are done preparing for everything else. Use it as a secondary source, not your primary source. Hope this helps. dentalhopeful
What book would you recommend (besides Campbell-it's way too long)?
dmd2012
I really enjoyed the MCAT bio section by The Princeton Review. Very much to the point and very representative of the newer versions of Canadian DAT. Some chapters such as the one on bacteria and muscular system is in too much detail but overall very good source. dentalhopeful
Is the Kaplan blue book's review of biological diversity (i.e. the five kingdoms) sufficient for the DAT? The schaum's review of this is very detailed and long!
