Details about the interview day

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how long you have to read a question and think about it before you start talking. It says in the interview package you have a couple of minutes, but I want to know exactly how long we have so I can practice. Also, I heard some rumours regarding an essay that you have to write at the end of the day. How much is the essay worth post-interview and what is it about? Nothing about the essay is mentioned in the interview package tho!

Med2012, Beekeeper,

There was an essay interviews of 2005 and prior, but I believe they have since removed it. My friend interviewed at Mac that year and told me about it (and the logistical nightmare that it was). My sister did her interview last year and there was no such thing. I doubt they'd reinstitute it...

I think there may be a school out west (calgary?) that does MMI and then an essay at the end... ?

or maybe just some school out west that does essay at their interview and I could be getting confused.

but for mcmaster, definitely no essay... just the MMI :)

You have two minutes to read the question before you enter the room. I know nothing about the essay you have mentioned and I am almost positive this is exactly what you had said - a rumour. Perhaps someone else can confirm this.

So two minutes in total to read the question+think about the answer? Awesome:o

Yea, Calgary is the other one with the MMI, and they need the essay. Mac doesn't.

lol..ya not much time eh? i read somewhere u can take more than 2 mins outside the room if u need to think some more, but then u'll have less than 8 mins inside.

I believe that's true but the 2 minutes seems like forever, I doubt you will need to stay beyond that.

I did the MMI last year and I found as did most people that 2 minutes is more that enough time to read the question and think about it, it doesn't seem long enough but it is...try it. The questions were generally pretty short no longer than a small paragraph in legnth.

I did the MMI at Dal this year and the two minutes were more than enough. Actually, I think the worst part was the anticipation of going into the next room and then hearing this awful buzzer (I had nightmares about the buzzer for days afterwards) that beckoned you to go in. Other than that, it was sufficiently painless.

I have a question about interview day - What is the decorum for bringing a purse/coat/folder with paper and pen with you on interview day?

I have a couple days left until mine ... soooooo nervous! I only applied at one school, so it is a one shot deal

Well, I'm in the same boat. Mac or bust. And this is my fourth time trying! So it will be this or Grenada for me.

As for the interview day, I'm just bringing a piece of paper with some MMI interview tips on the front and "Relax, it's too late to change anything now" on the backside. I'm not even going to wear a watch because I get distracted easily and I just want to have one train of thought when I walk into those rooms without having to keep thinking "Was that 5 minutes or 6 minutes".

I think we are all going to have a lot of fun once we hear the buzzer!

You can bring a purse. There's a rack by the coats for purses/bags/personal effects. Didn't see anybody toting one around, though. People had a hard enough time remembering to bring their stickers to the next room, you wouldn't want to have to worry about a bag too. I ended up carrying a piece of paper (that was given as part of an exercise) to two stations down the line before I even realized it was in my hand :)

mcmaster had by far the funniest student admissions videos. anyone know if they're available online? i want to show the infomercial one to some friends of mine.

Yeah. Apparently if you APPLY NOW - you can get a 4 year MD degree in just 3 years! with an EZblade for $19.99 and a bonus EZblade also for another $19.99.
