Skimpy
I am in my first year of University in Canada. However, I do not know how to do research, for example, I do not know where to look for in terms of Research opportunities or programs where I can research. And also what would you suggest in terms of EC's?

kiwi
Hey Skimpy, I'm pretty sure that most people here are simply going to tell you to do the ECs that you are most interested in, rather than just finding activities that you can use to pad your med school application. In terms of getting involved with research, the best option is to contact a prof whose research you would like to learn more about. You can also check out various departments at your university to see if they offer summer student research programs.

Your best bet in terms of EC's, imho, is to check out a wide variety of activities that interest you. You're in first year so it's a good time to explore and figure out what you like -- you'll likely find that most of the things you join don't turn out to be as great as you expected, and that one or two are activities you want to stick with long term.
