Queen's interview questions

Recommended Posts

I have some general questions about the interview format..i am not looking to particulary have anyone disclose any questions..but what is the nature of the interview? is it a "casually ask questions to get to know you" or is it a "we're going to grill you and see what your true intentions are" or a mix of both? are they largely based on your 48 item list? and does that 48 item list have any weight in the interview evaluation on its own?

"A train leaves Boston travelling west at 60 mph..."

The questions won't be anything surprising. I don't think it's any big secret that they're going to want to know about you and why you want to be a doctor.

My advice is to know the answers to the obvious questions and answer honestly. If you don't know why you want to be a doctor, then you'd better figure it out soon. If you can't figure it out then you probably don't really want to be a doctor.

Think about why you're doing this. If you don't worry about what they might want to hear, and just answer what you know and believe, the interview will be easy.

The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. No need to worry.

what is the 48 item list?

This is the list of academic, extracurricular, research, volunteer, etc. items that you submitted as the main portion of your OMSAS application.

I'd recommend that interviewees be familiar with all the things they put down on that sketch/list (NOT the 5 written answers), because you could potentially be asked about anything on it. Some interviewers might ask just out of curiosity what something is (an award, a position you held in 1999), and although it would never tank your interview if you couldn't say, they might wonder why you put it down as an "important point about you" in the first place if you can't remember what it is.

This year, as I was told by the Jennifer Saunders, your interview panel will have the written questions with them in the interview. So yes, you should know both your sketch and your written responses.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but what 5 written answers are you referring to? I know UofT, NOSM and McMaster all had their own written questions but I didn't think Queens had any. I'm looking at my print-out of the OMSAS application now, maybe I lost a page or something haha. Maybe Queens did have questions and I can't remember; application season is a bit of a blur to me now.

Perhaps you could note the date - this thread is from 2008, and things may have changed since then.
