How to handle Medicine interviews when Dentistry is my top choice?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I applied to medicine as a backup plan to Dentistry. I'm sure I would enjoy medicine but that being said, dentistry is my top choice. I have interviews for medicine at UWO and U of T, the two schools I applied to for dentistry. My question is this, if the topic comes up in my med school interviews should I say that dentistry is really my top choice? I realize that this sounds like a bad idea, but I don't want to go in there and say that medicine is my top choice and have this info be relayed to the dental admissions committee. I know I'm jumping the gun a little as dental invites haven't been sent out but I'm trying to be positive. My interview for U of T is next Saturday so I would love some feedback as to what you guys think about this situation.

thanks in advance

Caroline

You should not bring up the issue at all in your med or dent interviews.

What it comes down to is that you are being smart and leaving your options open. In your med interview, if they ask you why you want to be a physician and you say "actually I don't, I want to be a dentist" then you are going screw your chances of getting into med. Just tell them what attracts you to medicine without bringing up dentistry at all.
