Help with American schools that accept Canadians

Most private schools will take Canadians and the Canadian DAT. Schools which I applied to were the following

BU, NYU, Columbia, Meharry, Howard, University of the Pacific, Creighton, Tufts, Harvard, Temple, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, UPenn, University of Pittsburgh, University of Detroit Mercy, Marquette and of course my favorite school Case Western! NOVA also accepts Canadians and I believed that USC and Midwestern do as well.

Just remember to apply early! and for more info check out either SDN

or the any questions about american schools thread

Almost every school will accept the Cdn Dat. Here are some Cdn friendly schools:

BU

NYU

Tufts

Pittsburgh

Case Western

Columbia (provided you have stellar DAT scores). Also, Columbia is known for targeting students from well-known institutions (just like any other ivy league).

Upenn (provided you have a well rounded application)

Off the top of my head, schools that do not accept Cdn scores:

Midwestern

UCLA (No international students policy. Have to be a US resident to be considered for admission)

The first 5 schools are typically Cdn friendly. If you have a good application. you can get into any school, really.

Wow. Reminds me how limited our options are here in Canada.

Yeah, and thats only a fraction of the schools in the US. In one application, I applied to more schools than there are in Canada :D

Wow!! Good for you man. Committed!

There is 'forced competition' in Canada. We can easily open up a few more dental schools, and make it easy for our students. With a shortage of dentists in the coming years, there will be a massive brain drain from Canada.

I think some of the schools here in Canada that have medical schools, like uO, Mac, Queens, etc should think about opening Dental schools.

I know it costs money and all, but renovations are always happening here and there and it'd be a good use of the money. Just be relocating costs for things that are more urgent. Anyway, this can't be helped in our case.

So excited!

Thanks and congrats!

I was just wondering about the GPA conversion for American schools... do all the schools use this scale:

4.0 = 90-100

3.0 = 80-89

2.0 = 70-79 etc

Because this way my GPA is ridiculously low (like barely 3.0)... but I guess looking at NYU's 3.29 accepted GPA it wouldn't make sense if it was OMSAS.

Also, do you know if school's use all years including summer courses in the GPA calculation? I looked on a bunch of school's websites (BU, NYU, Howard) but they don't say anywhere on there.

Here

are the instructions for calculating your GPA based on the AADSAS scale. Start reading from page 44. It is to your advantage to convert your percentage value to a letter grade first. Check with your current school's registrar to see if they have a preferred way to convert a percentage value to a letter grade if you don't already have one.

The GPA calculation takes into account EVERY single course you have ever taken. Nothing gets dropped :mad:. But don't worry too much, if you apply super early (~May to June) you still do have a chance of getting in since they process applications and invite on a rolling basis.

Good Luck
