Easiest U.S. med school to get into

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Really sorry if this has been posted before, but I keep hearing the advice that Ontario med. is too hard to get into and I should apply to the US. What are the easiest US schools to get into? Extra points if they are in New York State.

p.s. I have MCAT- 30S, GPA 3.68 (but ~0.15 higher if first year excluded), what are my chances?

I don’t think any Medical school is really “easy” to get into. I know that it is “easy” (in comparison with Canada) to get into an American medical school, but it’s only easier for the “American” kids. 50% of the Americans who apply get at least one acceptance. It’s really sad; I know a lot of Canadians with 4.00’s getting rejected by a medical school for an American with a 3.5. Remember, of all thousands of pre-medical students accepted, only about 180 are foreign (and only a fraction of those are Canadians who went to Canadian schools).

Regarding your question, Rosalind Franklin, a private medical school in Chicago, is easy to get into if you have good stats. Its entering class last year barely had a GPA of 3.2…but then again, medical schools like this risk the lack of accreditation in the future (they have been disaccredited in the past).

Your stats are competitive for US med schools. 3.83 without your first year? Whatever happened to Queen's and UWO policy of taking your last 2 or best 2 years?

Apply here before States, that will at least give a chance. If your concerned (as everyone else) re-do your MCAT before heading to States if you must.

And about the comment of 180 non-US citizens/resident being admitted to US med schools/year, may I ask for the source? I am skeptic to say the least.

Wayne State..... SUNY Upstate

they sell a giant book about this for U.S. students I imagine it would be useful to a Canadian....

I agree that a lot of good applicants get screwed by a rigorously competitive system here in Canada and especially in Ontario... but if you have a shot give it your best go here... There are often troubles coming back to Canada after being educated outside of it.....

Personally I wouldn't leave Canada for med school.... my reasons for being a doctor stem from a health care system in Canada and I feel like it would be a cop out to go South or to the Caribbean.

median avg? that is simply wrong stats...they both are different words and mean different things...avg is the mean and median is the middle value...btw what does the website say?

median average.. you know, the median of the average mark, per student? you have an average, I have one.. add few more and you can get a median average. Anyhow, I'm not sure that's what the op meant, but just saying they're not necessarily wrong.

the avg for some of the US schools are around the 3.4 mark. According to my judgment i guess not everybody who gets in has 3.4 or higher because its an average so they might also have some students who would be around 3.2 or 3.3 mark thats prolly one of the reason that the avg tends to be low? thats just what i think...anyone beg to differ?
