Bird courses at York

Recommended Posts

I'm in my third year at McMaster, and I have finally learned that "bird courses" are never safe. Teachers could change, the University Senate could change the views of the returning teacher, the course could be too boring, or simply what someone else thought was easy could be difficult for you.

My worst marks at university have been "Bird Courses." To hell with this. Let us focus on learning material of interest and relevance and the marks will follow.

I agree, this year I decided to take an epidemiology course that was rated as very easy on few sites, and indeed the information was not that complex at all, clases were fun too. but it consisted of a presentation and 2 papers, no tests. I am not great writer and did not find the topic of epidemiology very interesting, so I did not put as much effort into it. Needless to say I got a B+ in that course.....and class average was an-->A and that was a 4th!!!! year class.... (I am usually an A/A+ student when the class average is a C...for comparrison) so i did pretty bad, despite the class being very easy......

the lesson of the story...."easiness" is a subjective interpretation, interest in the subject above all will yield a good mark. I actually happened to do really well in courses that were considered difficult in my program but that i found to be very interesting.

Also, I perefer test format rather than essay writing, that is my strengh, so you have to make sure that the courses you choose will be in the format most effective for your studying style...each student has different prefernces and this will effect their recomendation

-->By the way if you are interested in taking this course its called: epidemiology of injury prevention with Prof Macpherson its offered by the Kine dept:)
