Hey guys

i'm thinking about applying to U of M last year.. and would really appreciate your opinion on whether or not you think I should retake the MCAT.

My score is 33R (10/11/12) but I know that with a weighing of 50% on the MCAT, a lot of accepted applicants have higher scores.

Should I spend the 200 bucks again and ruin my summer :P???

i wouldn't rewrite. for oop this year, if you had 11 and 4.0ish you were considered to get an interview. This however did not guarantee that you got one, some ppl had very high MCAT's and gpa's and did not get a interview.

if you get an interview, you have a good shot at getting accepted, even off waitlist since it moves a lot for oop. You're MCAT's also fantastic for all the other schools in canada too, so don't even think about rewriting.

Are you not allowed to report whatever MCAT you wish to though? i was fairly certain that most schools only looked at the one you sent them.

All schools will ask that you report ALL scores. You cannot choose. They will choose for you.

Anyways, I would agree that writing the MCAT isn't in your best interest. Instead, spend your time building up your extra-curriculars and volunteerism because reading past threads by OOP applicants, MCAT and GPA are only one part of the criteria used to offer interviews for OOP. Even though the MCAT is 50%, the Personal Assessment is almost as valuable at 40%. To get through the interview you should have a lot of life experience.

The AAMC Thx system sends all scores you've taken (post Aug 2003), whenever you send a single score. Schools receive everything, and neither you nor the school choose what is reported. The school chooses which score to use, but that's a different story.

"If you have MCAT scores from Series 25 (April 2003) or later, they will automatically be included whenever you send any scores to a school or program."

Thanks so much guys! Really appreciate the feedback :).

My MCAT (especially verbal) was sadly not enough to get me an interview as an OOP at Calgary this year. I didn't apply to Manitoba this year because I'm not graduating yet. But I did hear that once you get an interview, the chance of getting accepted is quite good for an OOP. So if I retake the MCAT its solely for Calgary and Manitoba.

But I think at Calgary and Manitoba they take your BEST MCAT score. so even if i score worst this time around, its not going to negatively affect me right?
