Guest FockI'mOld!
I've read that if you have 2 full years > 3.7, then you're pretty much guaranteed an interview. Now, what if you have just one full year > 3.7? Are you just as likely to get an interview as those with two or more years > 3.7? *btw i know guaranteeds is not a real word*
KennethToronto
you will never be "guaranteed" an interview. it seems like the criteria for interview changes every year with respect to the GPA/MCAT cut offs.
blinknoodle
Assuming you meet the MCAT cut-offs, yes, the GPA requirement is for one year where you were in school full-time. You need 2 years above the cut-off to be able to be admitted.
Dante
1 year >3.7 + whatever the heck the mcat cutoff is = 100% interview after that, no promises
KennethToronto
1 year >3.7 + whatever the heck the mcat cutoff is = 100% interview after that, no promises Actually, not even The school in their fine print reserves the right not to invite an applicant for an interview even if they meet the cut offs. I'm sure it doesn't happen often (or ever for that matter), but I guess it's there for those rare cases where the referee says something very negative. Dante
i thought they changed it this year, and said that "If you meet the cutoff and didn't get an invite, something is wrong and you should contact us for an interview"? I vaguely remember reading that somewhere...

hinna
I just wanted to make sure, if you do have one yr above 3.7 and meet the cutoffs-your basically good to go, correct? assuming that you are not one of those rare cases that don't get called.. hinna
Oh alright, thank you! Right now, I believe my third year will be a 3.8 and if I meet the mcat requirements I should be ok:) thank you soo much! That is a sigh of relief!
mMD
... where did you guys read this? I know two people from different schools who had at least 3.8 in all four years and neither got an interview there. Both had very competitive MCATs. MillerTime
well if their stats did meet the cutoffs (all sections of MCAT, not just total), they should have contacted the admissions people to sort that out. They also needed 5 full credits for the years above 3.7.
Microbiodude
for some reason the notion that that if you get one year GPA >3.7 and MCAT meets cut-offs you get an interview just seems incorrect. Do you realize how many interviews they would have to give out? Or does the cutoff (MCAT) change according to the applicant pool? I know last year it was BS-12, VR-10, PS-9 and Q. Can someone send me a link saying they will give you the interview. I remember reading "meeting cut-offs does not guarantee an interview" which is a clause common to almost all medical schools in Canada.

I remember reading "meeting cut-offs does not guarantee an interview" which is a clause common to almost all medical schools in Canada. The mcat cutoff was 11,10,9 (not 12) and the site says 1 year at 3.7 and mcat cutoffs..... the statement saying meeting these requirements doesn't ensure an interview is a blanket statement for exceptional circumstances... However, if you get an interview with one year at 3.7 and get accepted you have to have your current year of study over 3.7 so it requires 2 years at 3.7 to get in... but only 1 to get an interivew The cutoffs fluctuate according to the applicant pool... but are relatively stable.... however this was the first year that a mark of 11 was required.... I think you're underestimating the difficulty in getting a 3.7 and a 30 on the mcat.... Just check out the schulich website
ploughboy
Do you realize how many interviews they would have to give out? Or does the cutoff (MCAT) change according to the applicant pool? The cutoffs are set based on the applicant pool to give 400-450 candidates for interview.
