3.14159265...
Paraphrased from "Charlie Wilson's War" A boy of 14 gets a horse and everyone says "how great", the zen master says "we shall see". He falls off the horse and breaks his hand, everyone says "how awful", the zen master says "we shall see". The village goes to war, and all the boys his age have to go but he can't because his arm is broken, everyone says "how great". The zen master says "we shall see". Guest begaster
Charlie Wilson's War was an incredible book. No inspirational stories for you, though. Sorry.
3.14159265...
Begaster think about this, I am from that country, and I saw all that happen. More importantly, that is how it happened. Well I saw the residual effects of it, not the actual fighting itself but everyone I know was personally affected by it all.
Guest begaster
Ah. I've read a fair bit about the Soviet occupation and aftermath of Afghanistan (well, Charlie Wilson's War and Ghost Wars, really). How do you feel about the current NATO invasion? Think it stands a chance of fixing the country, or is it a quagmire at best?

3.14159265...
You like the cave you live in clive? lol How do you feel about the current NATO invasion? Think it stands a chance of fixing the country, or is it a quagmire at best? I think it was a wonderful idea. I was there for 2 summers since the invasion, and had some good Afghan wine while there, listened to music and watched tv (Ya those were banned before). The troulbe though is that for a second time, the Afghan warlords have been able to force a foreign power to help one ethnicity more than the other (Ironically the Russians had chosen the same warlords). If they get back on their game, and stop getting tricked in social situations they should be of good use. The poor people however haven't seen much of a difference really. Wolvenstar
Without sounding too horrible, once the government deems Al Queda to be beaten enough to no longer pose a threat (and if possible capture Osama), I think Canada should pull out. This has nothing against the afghanistani people but this is our soldiers fighting against guerilla style tactics. The longer Canadian forces are there, the more soldiers will die, and while we may have done good now, I don't see us being able to make anymore sizable achievements than what we have already achieved. Mind you I think the last act Canada should do before they live, is help set up a legitamit government that can stand on it's own, but this is more of a task for the UN than Canada alone. 3.14159265...
Wolvenstar I feel as much for our Canadian soldiers as you do. I feel even worse actually knowing what they are dying for.
In_Valid
Anyone got any motivating stories for the rejects? I need a "pick me up"... At least you don't have terminal cancer. Whenever something "bad" happens, I just remember that things could be a lot worse and that I should be happy with what I have. This is not to say that I am pleased with my rejections/waitlist. lol

Sergie
Anyone got any motivating stories for the rejects? I need a "pick me up"... OK, here is the story: First time I applied to a one of the best med schools and was... accepted. Studied there (including few years of a very competitive residency) for 7.5 years and, if counted all my experience officially - for 12 years in total. Then, I moved to ... Canada... to find out that : I do not speak French, English, have no right to repeat my studies, have no Canadian prereqs, ECs, first MCAT is 24M and have no money to pay neither for additional studies at university nor for the MCAT prep classes, let alone the torture how to support my family. In 8.5 years I was accepted to a Canadian med school. Moral: everything happens the time it should. Do not hurry, slow down, see what you can do, and your life will guide you around the way that is reserved only for you. You will get everything on time. Best of luck. sergie. crimson
Little known fact: Chuck Norris was indeed a med school reject. That inspirational enough for you? I think what you mean is that Chuck Norris rejected med school.. which caused med school to eat ice cream, gain weight and cry uncontrollably. Med school is still not over Chuck Norris. MillerTime
I think what you mean is that Chuck Norris rejected med school.. which caused med school to eat ice cream, gain weight and cry uncontrollably. Med school is still not over Chuck Norris. Actually before Chuck Norris, no one was rejected from medical school. However since the american medical college association was rejected by Chuck Norris, they were crushed (as stated above), and only then started to reject people, including countless numbers of extremely qualified applicants, out of spite to Chuck Norris. All other med school associations throughout the world then followed suit, as they all felt rejected by Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris however, being the humanitarian that he is, was not impressed by this very unfair spite towards very qualified applicants, and convinced them using the roundhouse kick method of convincing, telling them that he would allow some people to be rejected, however if these people really really wanted to get in, that they would successful no matter what, even if it took a few years. And that is why it takes some people a couple of years to get into med school, and why if you really want it, it'll happen (because Chuck Norris made it that way) If it wasn't for chuck norris, there wouldn't be a doctor shortage, there would be a complete doctor absence. There would be no medical profession if not for Chuck Norris. I think he should be given an honorary MD, and be known as Dr. Chuck Norris, specializing in beards and roundhouse kicks. Like c'mon, he has cured cancer
