researchgirl
hi everyone!! first of all, CONGRATS to all those accepted/waitlisted.. i'm thinking about all of you hoping that you get your acceptances soon! i was wondering about people attending the east campus - what's your living situation for next year? i'm moving back up to sudbury from southern ontario.. but i'm still debating whether to live in residence or find a place off campus? does anyone else know is NOSM students have a specific residence that they live in, or a certain area of town where a lot of students live? i would really appreciate any feedback!! Doc.V
Hey Researchgirl, Residence for NOSM students is at the Mature Student Residence (MSR) (from what I was told) which is attached to the SSR complex. Personally, I would live off campus that way you can select where you live and try to find a place that is quiet. If not, you get undergrads that live in SSR/UC coming home from the Pub Downunder all the time and making tons of noise. I lived off-campus for ~5 years in Suds (and on campus for 2 years), and I found a lot of students get apartments around the martindale, walford, southview, four-corners area. From those streets, it takes only about 5 minutes to get to campus (depending on traffic) and about 3 minutes to get to the Laurentian Hospital (perhaps if you were doing rounds at a later date!). Also, with the new Zellers/Southridge at mall the south end of town, its pretty convienent for any quick things you need (but I'd head to the new Sudbury center or out of town for clothes!). Hope this helps

hike
The vacancy rate in Sudbury is extremely low due to the boom in the mining sector. It took me a lot longer than I thought to find a place to live. My advice would be to give yourself lots of time to find the right place for you. Congrats on your (and everyone else's) acceptance to NOSM! See you in the fall.
