There has been some waitlist movement at some schools today...so maybe mac's list will continue/start to move.

 

Still hopin' here. Man, I wish I just had some closure at this point.

Thanks everyone! I got the email this morning. My stats: 3rd year, Human Biology Specialist, University of Toronto. GPA: 3.99. Turned 20 this year ! First time applying .....and the only interview I had was at McMaster!

I cannot wait to meet you guys......!

I'm assuming that the natural tendency is that Mac is still calling people since the deadline for the firm acceptance is still a few days away. After all, if the class is already full, they should inform the people in the waiting list about it.

I also got the email this morning, so the waitlist is definitely moving. Don't give up just yet....the provisionals are ending next week so there should be more coming. Hang in there and good luck!!

Can someone explain to me why a movement is expected next week? The way I understand it, the provisional acceptances become firm acceptances. That event doesn't open up any spots. So, where are these new spots coming from? Unless, one can provisionally accept at more than 1 school, which seems strange.

Not normally an forum-goer (still figuring out how to post properly:p ), but I thought I would share with all those others waiting the summer away...

 

I emailed Wendy the other day to ask if we would be notified when the the class is full and was told that technically the class is always full in that there are enough accepts and offers out to fill the 148 spots. (rolling admission). Also, she said that they do not 'dissolve' the waitlist until the first day of class so that that no spaces go unfilled in case someone cancels until the last minute. Also, I was told we would not get any numerical information regarding the waitlist:( .

 

So, can't decide if this is good or bad. It doesn't make the wait any easier that's for sure. Just speculating, but I don't think they would have a massive list of 50 waiting in August still and not inform them them. I think the waitlist is short enough that Mac can be confident they won't have excessive people still waiting in August that this would apply to. They know that waiting to figure out where you are going to be in September is not the ideal summer activity:\

 

Anyways, that's my info. Please share if anyone has heard differently. I hope this post goes on okay:lol ...

Anyhoo, I hope Mac will be sending more waitlist offers after the 3rd, when provisionals become firm and the waitlist gets smaller. Let us hope they call our name!

I too don't understand why many people keep saying that there may be movement after provisionals become firm. Once provisionals become firm there are no more spots.

 

Can someone who is at Mac set this straight?

Oh... and one more thing.... is it just me or do people in admissions at Mac not work on Fridays?

it's very likely that the waitlist will move after july 3rd, but how much of it moves depends on the provisional offers.

 

suppose that 50 people received Mac (maybe with other schools), but were waitlisted on a school that they really want to go. If 30 wanted Mac as a backup, they will provisionally accept the offer conditional on the school they really want; the other 20 will decline Mac and provisionally accept their 2nd choice. After July 3rd, suppose 20 people receive an offer on the school they want because spots opened up because other people at those schools provisionally accepted those schools but now want to go to a different school, then 20 spots will open up on the waitlist, but the 10 who didn't get the schools they want will firm with Mac.

 

I know this sounds confusing, but it's really useless to analyze how the waitlist works, because it either gives false hope or not enough hope. Just take your minds off it and be surprised when it comes.
