Hello! I have been looking at some threads and I decided to sign up so I am new to these boards.

If the following have been asked elsewhere please forgive me and tell me where I can find them:

1. With regards to extracurriculars/volunteering: I am continuing volunteering at the hospital (since high school), homeless shelter, and also working with kids, and then I have a few more places that I volunteer but not as much as the aforementioned ones. Extracurriculars? Though there are quite a few clubs I would want to join, with school and volunteering I don't have the time. I always considered volunteering to fall under extracurriculars (but I don't know :( ).

2. I will be entering 3rd year in September and I would like to apply in October. As far as I understand - U of T, Mac, Queens, and Ottawa accept 3rd years but it is more difficult to get in correct?

GPA: 3.94

Volunteer/Extracurr: Question 1

Research: 2 summers at the same supervisor :) (awesome place)

MCAT: will be writing this summer

I am really worried because I know people who have really high GPAs, lots of volunteering and extracurr, and who did not get into certain unis, but got interviews to others, or were waitlisted. These were 3rd year applicants.

However, I also know of people whose GPAs were not as high, average MCAT scores, not many extracurr, maybe a summer or so of research and got into med school, but were in 4th year.

If someone can shed light on any of these questions it would be greatly appreciated. If I should post these questions elsewhere, please tell me where and sorry!!!!!!!!

Thank you :D

Sounds like you're in pretty good shape. You have more volunteering than I did. About EC's, do you have any hobbies that you participate in? Sports, music, art, book clubs, school clubs, etc?

I honestly don't know if its more difficult as a third year. I mean, in the official scoring systems I've heard about for all these schools I don't recall even seeing any points awarded or subtracted based on your year, but I could be wrong. However, I believe UWO requires you to have your (honors) degree at the time of entrance now.

^hello! Oh there are sooooooo many things I am interested in and I had made a promise to myself in 2nd year to participate in some. Unfortunately my schedule was pretty bad (a lot of long days and late classes) and they would meet usually during my class times. I was quite sad :(

It is significantly more difficult to get in after 3rd year, let alone get an inteview. I've seen people with 3.9+ not even getting interviews at U of T.

That said, with your application, you stand a half decent chance of getting in after 3rd year. Worst comes to worst, you look like a decent bet to get in after 4th year.
