kwasko@dal.ca
I just received the feedback on the MMI. I was in the 6th decile... pretty disappointing. I am actually an older applicant (25) and have worked in health care for over two years. I really don't think that the interview score is an actual reflection of my knowledge of the system or my critical thinking skills. I left the interview thinking I could have done better but am baffled that I did that poorly... My top two-year average is 86.42%. I am waitlisted but don't know how much hope there is for a spot now...
kch128
Kwasko- I am waitlisted with a 2-year average of 83.9%. I placed in the 3rd decile on the MMI. That must put us pretty close to equal standing. I am 32 and felt that I would have scored a little better on the MMI as well.
reminisce
thats surprising as the MMI is basically geared to give applicants like yourselves a chance to shine. its unfortunate that you two didn't rank 1st or 2nd deciles given all your life experience. hopefully some seats open up for you to because it would definitely be an asset to the class to hear about your experiences. good luck! kch128
Hey reminisce- Just out of curiousity (and trying to work some #'s) how did you score in the MMI?
kwasko@dal.ca
I would have thought I would be advantaged too... I really don't know what went wrong. I have always thought I communicate well and have fine reasoning ability. Any job I've interviewed for I've gotten, so I haven't thought it was such a problem. I wish the feedback could have been more specific so that I could know exactly what to address next time. Maybe I was too confident??
reminisce
kch: i was accepted and my two year was 92% and i was 4th decile. dont know how much help that may be for your statistics calculations =S kwasko: i doubt that you were overly confident, i think everyone has some traces of anxiety and nervousness before their interview and i'm sure they expect that. unfortunately i can't speak for the college and say what type of applicants they are looking for but for my sake i just tried to "be myself" as corny as that sounds. it helped take away some of the anxiety. of the people accepted, there seems to be a pretty wide spectrum of personalities from the soft-spoken (me) and the very outspoken that were accepted. i personally think im only average in the critical thinking and communication department so there must be alot of other criteria they are looking for. if this year doesn't pan out for you i do hope you continue to apply and share your knowledge and experiences with your future classmates. i'm sure they will appreciate and benefit from it =)
toontown84
Hello, I was accepted this year with a 2 year average of 83%. I am also an older student and am currently in the process of wrapping up my master’s degree. I ranked in the first quintile last year but was not accepted, but this year with the interview being so heavily weighted and ranking in the 1st decile, I got a break and was accepted. I have no clue on how these interviews are marked as they are quite subjective, but the only advice I have for future MMI interviews is that you really just have to be yourself and answer the questions logically and in an organized manner. This style of interview really tries to see what type a person you are and how well you can present yourself. But, don't lose hope yet! You never know! Good luck! surgimus
I just checked my email. It looks like I scored in the first decile. When I think back to my interview, I really didn't feel I had exceptional answers at every station, though I did hammer a few of them. When I practiced with peers leading up to the interview, I wrote things down a lot, had a strategy of answering every question type, but on the day I think my focus was just making sure I actually connected with whoever I was speaking with, didn't write anything down at all, just cleared my head and thought about the issue. Kinda hoped that feeling of readiness to take on med school, and the preinterview prep would carry me through. I wasn't certain my interview went really well or not post interview. Really happy to see it turned out in the top decile though!
