bones
Hello med students at MUN! I'm curious about the complimentary and alternative health coursework you receive in first year. What does this involve? Do you receive further coursework on CAM in subsequent years? Do you talk about specific modalities and treatments? What is the student response to this aspect of the curriculum? Thanks!
NLengr
CAM is integrated into each section of ISD (Integrated Study of Disease). So in Cardiology, you do a cardiology CAM activity (like a few short answer questions). The point of the works seems to be to get you to reflect about you feelings and approach to CAM, rather then to teach you the various aspects and details of CAM, especially when so many of them are controversial as to their benefit anyway. We'll say that it receives mixed reviews throughout the students. Some like it, some dislike it.
AhhhNice
I disliked it. It's not worth anything in terms of marks, unless they change the marking scheme for next year. NLengr summed it up perfectly from the administration's/instructor's point of view. It's a lot of questions like "how do you define quackery" and "a patient says he wants to try some new chinese herb, what do you say to that patient?". From the few modules I actually completed, I felt that I didn't learn anything. Any more questions, just post em up here.
