Dandoon
Hi everybody, I don't know if this is the right thread to be discussing this in, but I just received my admission package for UoA, and I was also accepted at UBC and had paid the $10,200 non-refundable deposit. Since UBC is DMD, I personally have a preference for UoA (DDS), but the deposit that I've paid somewhat evens that out ,so I'll probably be attending UBC. I was wondering if anybody has information that would convince me to do otherwise. Does anybody know if we're allowed to sell our spots or not? Is that even legal? I'll also post this in a separate thread in case this is the wrong thread for this, thanks.
dgundy9
I've seen you discuss your $10,000 deposit a few times on these threads. I have had a few friends send in that deposit with every intention to forfeit it upon acceptance to Alberta. Two are now at BC (last fall) and the other is still waiting to hear back from Alberta for this year. I know its hard to let go of the 10 grand, but you'll probably save a few times that at Alberta. That being said, I'm sure there are some advantages to UBC. Whatever your decision is, don't let the $10,000 make it for you. As hard as it is to accept it, it should not be a factor. If you choose Edmonton, I'll take you out for some sushi or something. You can join my alliance:) ps, I'm looking for a place to buy up there right now and the prices are coming down......yeehah! I actually have realtors emailing me back and begging me to come see their listings. Boy have times changed.
dackmonkey
+1 to what dgundy said. 10 grand is nothing when you compare the tuition costs of both schools. it's a no brainer unless there is something about UBC that's really compelling you to attend (not including the deposit of course). Prozium
sell your spot...are you serious...? after your dilema over the 10k and UofT(which was your number 1 choice) I don't see what would convince you to go to UofA instead.

What happened to your whole logic of saving hard earned 10,000 ? You should have thought about selling your spot when you received an offer from U of T . as always, let us know what you plan on doing. also if you somehow manage to sell your spot, do let us know how you found a buyer (craiglist, ebay, facebook, etc...). Masaki
lol looks like dadoon's back about his UBC issue again. Judging from how much he keeps 2nd guessing his decision to attend UBC, I think he should just go to Alberta as was mentioned in the last ubc vs UT thread, he'll be saving tons of money in the long term despite the 10k deposit

It might be useful to the people on top of the waitlist. I don't even know if we're allowed to do that... any ideas?

So you're going to try and find someone who will pay you 11K to give up your spot, and then pay UBC another 11K for their deposit? Anyone dumb enough to agree to that will likely not have made it onto the waitlist! lol.
