Hatchepsout
Hi, I want to apply to medicine next year but it will be more than 8 years that I have completed the prerequisite courses. I am currently doing a PhD in microbiology/immunology. Is anyone is or was in the same situation as me? Did you have to repeat those classes? It looks like McGill is the only Quebec university following that rule for people with PhDs in a field related to medicine! Do we have to do the labs too? It states on the website: «Minimum credits do not include compulsory laboratory or practical work.» but I'm not sure what they mean by that... Blackkeys
Isn't there something on the website that says that if you have completed higher studies in those areas, you're exempted from the prereq's? I mean, with a PhD in micro/immuno, you probably wouldn't have to re-take first-year biology!! But, I guess the only way to find out before applying is to just call them and ask. Sergie
I was in the same situation. Eventhough my undergrad degree is closly related to medicine/bio, I was asked to repeat ALL of them. So, you will probably be asked to take 2 GCHEm, 1 OCHEM (might or might not)and PHYS + MCAT. Anyways, write to admissions and ask them what you should do. BTW, I also did all labs components including PHYS and BIO. Good luck!
Hatchepsout
Well, they said I have to take 3 credits of chemistry and 6 credits of physics. I can't believe it, who cares about those courses? I use chemistry in the lab every day!
longwaydown
McGill is not always extremely strict about the time limit. I completed 1st year physics 9 years ago, with no further physics courses, and I was accepted this year. However, I got >90% in the course, and a 14PS on the MCAT 6 months before applying. So, while it's probably risky to not retake the courses, they will overlook it in some circumstances.
