Pathomimi
I am curious how everyone's cumultive GPA goes throughout your undergrad years. I am currently heading into my 3rd year. I found my GPA has been decreasing. It goes from 9.8 -> 9.3 ->8.8 ->8.75 (on a 10 point scale)...well...it could be because that I took a few damn hard but interesting electives that I regret now I am planning to boost it back up to 9.0 next year. But I heard some ppl from higher years say that classes get harder in higher years, so I kinda worry about it. Besides, there're lots of extracurriculars going on during school... whereas others say that they did better in their 3rd and 4th year. so i m just wondering how other premed out there has seen your cGPa change.....? cleboman
Some people just have crazy marks from the start. I find that a lot of people will mess up their 1st year usually with a few marks in the 70s and then really step it up. I'm not sure how the 12.0 gpa scale works, but I got a 3.62 gpa first term of first year and my brother kicked my ass so I got nothing lower than 3.98/4.0 for the next 2.5 terms since. I just got into Mac and even though their gpa cutoff is only 3.0, gpa plays a big part in your selection(53% for preinterview and 33.3% post interview) I got lucky because It wasnt all of first year and just that one term, however I know a few people who had bad first year marks and some even for part of second year. All of the people I know in this situation got accepted after 4yrs of undergrad + a year off(had to try a few times and got in after completing their undergrad) Why GPA in higher years is important is because of the way most schools weight the GPA. For example if you apply after 3yrs of undergrad, Ottawa will weight 1st yr x 1, 2nd yr x 2, and 3rd yr x 3. So your 3rd yr gpa for ottawa is worth half of your weighted gpa, where as 1st year is only 1/6 of it. Another school(maybe Queens) looks at your last 2 years or something. Mac is equal weighting for all years, toronto is equal weighting as well but after 3or4yrs of undergrad I believe you get to eliminate some of your worst marks. So keep trying, work hard and if you want it bad enough you will be in med. Good luck
