MCAT as flag, how?

Is the MCAT minimum checked via a computer, and those who don't make it are rejected automatically? If so, whats up with the people who scored 8's or 7's in one section (but still have an overall high score) and still got interviews?

Just wondering how the system works, since at other schools (Western, Queens) a computer automatically cuts you off if your below the minimum, no questions asked.

Thank!

thanks,

But who is it who decides if one bad score on the MCAT is compensated by the rest of the application? Do the people reviewing the application (med students from what I gather) decide all of this? Or is there some system to ensure that falling below the minimum is tightly regulated?

Also, for the section that gives you 100 characters to elaborate why your application transcript does not reflect your true ability, WHO decides if it is valid and if it is appropriate to re-adject weighing, etc? Are applicants who fall into these situations re-routed to a committee who decides if they are called for interview or not?

I think the MCAT is a flag in the sense that if your scores are below 9-9-9-N, your application is in jeopardy...those students with MCAT scores of 7 or 8 must have had a high GPA or something in their application that really stood out to the assessor...Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think they just throw the application out if the 9-9-9-N isn't met...other schools have very specific cut-offs however.
