Tips for OSAP?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Does anyone have tips on getting the most out of OSAP?

After using the aid calculator online, it seems like being in a common-law relationship and having some savings and some RRSPs (nothing substantial, though) will greatly limit the amount of OSAP aid I can get.

I don't have a car or other assets and have much less than 2000$ in RRSPs and savings per year I've been out of high school (seven years now, enrolled in university full-time since then, but debt-free).

I can't really count on money from my family or from my common-law "husband", and I'm not sure I want to transfer my RRSPs to pay tuition. But my OSAP estimate came out at less than 2000$!!!! So it seems I'll have to live and pay tuition mostly from a line of credit, after draining my meager savings, and it's freaking me out a little!

I'd really appreciate any tips or suggestions! Thanks!

not sure if this will help your specific situation, but here is a link to a thread on another forum that has a lot of good info on OSAP tips/advice/info where a guy who used work for them (a few years ago) answers many many questions. It's a really long thread (i think up to 72 pages now), but there's tons of good information in there about OSAP. Even though it is long, I'm sure the guy who answers would appreciate if people read through looking for their answers rather than asking questions that have been answered several times.

p.s. the website this forum is on is also awesome for finding good deals/sales on stuff, especially electronics.
