FAQ: What are my chances?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Hoping some of you can offer any thoughts on my shot at Umanitoba for the 2016/2017 cycle. Can't seem to find much solid info on chances at getting in via the Aboriginal Pool.

AGPA: 4.00/4.50

Operative MCAT: 9.15

Just finished general science degree with micro focus and did a summer of bio-research via an NSERC award.

About 2 years of hospital volunteering (wards, emergency, surgery).

Applying as IP with very high rurality coefficient. Plan on hopefully returning back home up north to work in rural setting. I also fit some criteria for the new socioeconomic diversity multiplier.

Worked for a private contract EMS company as a primary care paramedic all over northern rural Manitoba and Winnipeg for a year.

Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

Here's the link to uManitoba recent years statistics http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/health_sciences/medicine/admissions/8831.html

Not only Manitoba, but also other MD schools will give Aboriginal applicants some or more weight than regular applicants, you have Much Better chance than most applicants due to your aboriginal status. Good luck.

No, I don't have any particular expertise, but I would apply across the board, subject to any MCAT cut offs that might exist. For Ottawa, MCAT is not required but if I remember correctly, there is a chem prerequisite.

Thank you Bambi :)

Does anyone else have any idea about possible Ontario schools I could apply to?

Just got the mcat scores back today!

3rd year IP for Calgary/AB

128/125  /128/128.

GPA: 3.94, 3.85 (OMSAS)

Cars was one of my best sections in practice, so I was honestly shocked!

Since, I am in 3rd year, I was thinking of just applying to Calgary for the sake of staying where I currently live. Should I even bother with the ontario schools/ubc?

thanks.

GPA: 3.89 (OMSAS), 88% 1st year, 90% 2nd year (UBC)

MCAT: 514 (130/126/128/130), goddamn CARS

ECs: President of club, VP of another club, Peer Programs, Special Olympics, involved in athletics, Research on two studies: one being written for publication and I am 2nd author

I'm a 3rd year applicant and I already applied to UBC and I'm preparing to submit my application for OMSAS. Just wondering what my chances are like for UBC and for U of T, Ottawa, McMaster, Queens? And it's not worth it to rewrite the MCAT for CARS right?

Hey guys, I just finished my second year and was looking for some feedback.

1st Year GPA: 3.96

2nd Year GPA: 3.87

Writing my MCAT this summer.

EC: - 12 Years of drums (2 years in semi professional rock band)

       - 5 years playing guitar

       - VP of on campus club (music related) and member of 2 other clubs on campus

       - deans list w/ distinction (top 3% GPA in first year)

       - one basic GPA related scholarship

       - 12 years of mildly competitive ice hockey including intramurals at uni

       - 2 summers volunteering at local hospital once a week

I think my EC's are a bit weak, is there any value to applying this upcoming round?

Thanks

Hey guys. wrote my mcat. 130/128/129/130.

GPA: 3.83. Weighted at U of T, 3.89. At Ottawa, 3.835.

MCAT: Not sure yet. Felt really good about it, especially verbal. My score on the official practise test was 50/53 for verbal.

ECs: 300+ hours hospital volunteering over three years, 800+ hours lifeguarding/swim instructing, 100 hours volunteering in a lab, one summer project with an award, one current research project, exec at a medical volunteering club (and did two trips, helped organize one of them) for a year, exec at a recreational snowboard club (currently VP) for two years where helped organize trips. Those are the major points, I can't help but feel it's kind of average for an applicant.

References: A research prof, a physician involved with the club, and the volunteer coordinator at my hospital. Feels kind of average too, but not bad.

Just applied to U of A, U of C, U of Sask, Western, Queens and Mac.. Only IP for U of C and U of A

GPA 3.7 OMSAS (little gained by weighting as I was consistently meh in UG)

MCAT 520 129/130/132/129

ECs: research w/ pubs, coaching, playing in a band, teaching music lessons, club exec stuff, crisis line. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Master's expected summer of 2016.

Already applied, just curious what your thoughts are!

I don't know in what world that is considered a lack of ECs
