md16
Hi guys, sorry if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find much on it..anyways I was wondering if it is essential to have biochemistry in order to do well on the bio section? I will have taken everything including anatomy, organic, etc except for biochemistry and physiology. I'm also planning on taking a review course with either kaplan or princeton and will have the whole summer to basically focus on the mcat. Thanks in advance!! Sutler
you don't need a course...I found Kaplan to do a good job covering bio
arctic_monkey
Ya...most of the "biochem" stuff is from high school and first year bio anyways - looking at the Kreb's cycle and energy production stuff...a biochemistry course would go into TONS more detail than you need to know for the MCAT. Good luck! P.S. I took Kaplan and found that it really helped me prepare especially in terms of strategy...
rmorelan
Same here, didn't take a course before I wrote the MCAT on those sections and just use the kaplan reference notes. Did fine. Study hard, and you won't have any problems.

spicandspan
As a former biochem student, I can agree with everything that others have said too. In depth biochem isn't really tested that much on the MCAT (sucked for me when I wrote b/c I had no university experience in any of the major human phyiological systems).
