Interview Weekend social events?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone RSVP'd to the social events planned for either of the weekends? Do you think they're worthwhile/does anybody go to them?

Last year I went to the one on my interview weekend, and it was great, because it set me at relative ease prior to my interview. I was able to get aquainted with some of the med students, discuss the school and interview approaches, etc and recognize that I could see myself fitting in with the crowd - which helped to boost my confidence. There was definately a good turnout on behalf of both the interviewees and the med students - and I plan on making it out to a few of them this year for sure to chat with some of you guys.

It's really up to you and your personality. In the end, your INTERVIEW comes first, so keep that in mind.

The first weekend, we've gotten our own private hall, and food from Oscar Taylor's; Second weekend is at Moxies, and they've given us our own area as well.

You'll have the opportunity to speak/dine with the class of 2012 and your fellow interviewees. It's a great opportunity to have a chat with a few members of our class and get a feel for what our school/student body is like.

I went to a few of these when I interviewed, and had mixed opinions: some were really not so great because you had interviewees who didn't know anybody all grouped together, and the 1st year class sitting together, all in a loud environment not very conducive to conversations... not much fun, nothing much gained for the interviewees.

Other times, the class was thoroughly intermixed with the interviewees, helping them to get to know each other, get comfortable, and have a fun night (either pre or post interview... or both!). We're putting in the effort to make sure these events are like the latter case: as informative and fun as possible for you guys. The 2012s will be dispersing ourselves to help you guys get to know each other, and giving you an opportunity to ask us some of your burning questions about UWO... and we've put in the effort to pick less loud/rowdy restaurants so as to give you guys the opportunity and time to speak with us (and actually hear us!!).

I'm told there are usually around 50-60 interviewees that come out each night, and a large fraction of our class will be there. My classmates who did come out to the dinners when they were interviewing said they enjoyed their time, and found that it helped them in their decision making process. We're all really excited to see you; we remember what it was like a year ago, and we're putting on these events to help alleviate some of that stress! Hope to see you there!

Last minute question, but...

I have an interview at 1pm and I wanted to go to the info session at 12-12:50. Do you think I'd be able to register at say 11:30am, join the info session and get out in time for my interview?

Thanks for any responses!

Yeah, there should be 2012s there to take you from the info session to your interview room - if you want to do this, just make sure you let people know that you've got somewhere to be!

for anyone (next weekend) who might be worrying about the schedule - 15mins was ample time to register, and all the 1pm interviewees were able to watch the 12-12:50pm info session and get escorted to their rooms without any trouble at all.
