neurotastic
Aloha boys and girls. I'm a student at UoT Scaborough and I just wanted your opinion on my first year courses. I had to register both my fall and winter classes, and I was for the most part happy with my fall pickings. My winter I am a little more dubious about: Intro to psych II Intro to Chem II Intro to Anthro II Cities and Environment Human Health and the Environment What do you think? Is my course load okay, or should I go into a tougher course? I am personally happy with it, but I'm not sure how med schools would look at this (and wow haven't even entered uni yet but I'm already worrying about med schools)
w8kg6
(and wow haven't even entered uni yet but I'm already worrying about med schools) you hit the nail on the head there. So long as this lax semester doesn't set you back wrt prereqs, don't worry about it. Med schools won't.

I agree. There should be Calculus and Biology.
w8kg6
I dunno, what program are you in? It looks like an arts/science major, and sometimes the typical first year courses are taken in second year. To give us a better feel, you should say what your major is. You don't need bio or calc for MD, but I'd at least recommend into bio for the MCAT. With that course load, I bet you could fit a bio in no problem. nickel
I agree. There should be Calculus and Biology. i dont think we need calculus unless he is plannin to apply to amercian schools too...Bio is important though for MCAT and most of the medschools ask for it.. xi88
and bio is fun!!!! ....well some of it...i dont like plants.... Although botany can be very boring, plant biology is important. Most of the drugs we use today are extracted or are derived from plants. In addition, many other chemicals we use like pesticides, herbicides, perfumes, etc. all come from plants. IMO, at least a basic knowledge of plants is very important.
neurotastic
The reason I don't have bio is that I had AP credit (I did HS in the states) so I was able to skip bio. First semester I am taking calc, but I can't second because it creates a conflict with psychology and chemistry.

What courses you take doesnt really matter for med apps so long as you can get good grades in them. You should talk to your undergrad advisor at school to look over your plans to make sure that the classes you pick give you the right credits for your degree (a friend picked some courses that were easy, but turned out to not count towards her degree, and she had to delay graduation for a semester). apache
take the easiest courses you can get away with (and that your interested in) ! no one cares, except people in honors programs who will judge you, because their lives suck and they wish they had your courseload Aloha boys and girls. neurotastic
Awesome advice guys. Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm on track. And I'm in the neuroscience specialist program. This year my required courses were psych I and II, chem I and II, and bio I and II. I got out of bio because of AP credit, and I couldn't get calc for the second semester because of scheduling conflicts. Hopefully a freer schedule the second semester will allow me to really do well. Thanks for the advice, simply brilliant.
