Chuck234
Is there a strict Writing Sample cutoff for Queen's? and I guess for Western.
Scintillating
There isn't a strict one and it changes every year based on the applicant pool. This past year(and the year before) the Queen's and UWO cut-off (UWO, for non-SWOMEN) has been a P for Queen's and a Q for Western. Correct me if I'm wrong.. I didn't keep my rejection e-mails that stated them.
cary_fan
Is there a strict Writing Sample cutoff for Queen's? and I guess for Western. Without knowing the cutoffs, all you can do is apply. You have nothing to lose (except a few bucks)...
supafield
Queen's was an R for 07/08 and then a Q for 08/09. Western has been a Q for non-swomeners for 4 or 5 years now.
Chuck234
Yea, I plan to apply regardless but would they even look at my app? 3.89 (best 2), 35O (12B,11V,12P)

There were people this year that were one pt below the verbal cutoff but had enormously high science sections and they were put on a waiting list for an interview, but the same scenario was not seen for the writing sample or at least not on these boards. However, you never know what they might do as it does change from year to year. Best of luck.

Chuck234
Thanks a lot for the help/advice! Good luck to everyone else applying.
crockett
I'd consider re-writing the MCAT if i was you. Your # score is awesome, and it would be a shame to miss out on interviewing at 2 schools (which unfortunately you most likely will without a better writing sample) because of one section on the MCAT (and I'm sure you could bump it up to Q with a little work!) guitarded27
I have a similar question. Are the cutoffs (GPA and MCAT) strictly separate, and in sequence (1st is GPA, 2nd is MCAT)? Like, in my case, if my GPA is 3.70 (on the low side), but my MCAT is 36S, would I not make it past the first cutoff, and not get an interview? tyro
Yes, they are separate and in that sequence. If you don't meet the GPA cutoff, then even if you have a high MCAT, you won't get interviewed. It seems that this past cycle the GPA was a min. of 3.70 and a 31Q MCAT I think. But a couple years back it was a min. of 3.78 and a 32Q, so it varies a lot year to year, depending on how many they want to interview. I have a similar question. Are the cutoffs (GPA and MCAT) strictly separate, and in sequence (1st is GPA, 2nd is MCAT)?
