Well, you are planning on writing the Essay for U/T. Here is some sage advice I have received that I am following. Have a theme for your Essay. Let it be known. This sets the framework for your essay. Be organized in structure of the essay. Go into important stories in detail, even if this means you will leave out other examples of characteristics they are looking for. Your essay/story needs to catch the attention of the reader who finds your essay compelling or interesting in conveying important information about you. Do not give a short or long laundry list of your favourable attributes such as leadership, initiative, compassion. These are self-serving desriptions of yourself even if they are true. Your story should be such that it will be clear to the reader that you have these attributes without you saying you have them. Don't be so very consise to save on a word here and a word there to stay w/i the 1,000 words that your Essay does not read well as a result. It needs to flow. Start preparing early. Personally, I have done at least 25 drafts, and now am virtually satisfied with the result.
