mattg
Everyone is always saying 'leadership' in their summaries... I know often that is refering to being execs of clubs... but what else qualifies as leadership (as I know UT, and mots schools, are looking for leadership)... I have never been part of any clubs, but I have played many team sports in which I was a leader (at least I think)... also coached high school girls softball for a few years... done some tutoring... going to TA this upcoming year... is this stuff leadership? Mircrobidude is correct. Coaching a girls softball team takes leadership absolutely and more. Being a TA would encompass leadership. Individual tutoring is academic mentoring and, therefore, leadership is a part of it. The adcoms understand it all. You do not need to claim "leadership" for example in an essay, rather you need to explain or set forth what you have done in such a manner that they 8understand what qualities you have exhibited without you creating a laundry list of adjectives stating how great you are. Microbiodude
The other thing with leadership is that it doesn't always have to be by position (though it is always easiest to identify), it can also be through action. Anytime, you have resolved a conflict, involved yourself in strategic planning, taken initiative without being asked or helped out someone in need, you have demonstrated qualities needed to be an effective leader and as such have demonstrated "leadership." With the proper event sequence and transitions you can use those experiences to convey to your reader that you indeed do possess what it takes to be a good leader.
