Jabs
I'm pretty sure we should wear shirt and tie for the white coat ceremony but what about the 18th and during classes. Is it pretty laid back (jeans/t-shirt)
switcheroo
I've been wondering this myself. I'm probably going to live in jeans/skirts (while this crap weather masquerading as summer lasts) for lectures, but I have no idea what to wear for the first day of orientation on the 18th. Maybe a semi-casual skirt? I guess it partly depends on the weather, because if it's cold, I'm coming in jeans (and a nice top).
MrTibbs
Granted U of M is a little laxed in terms of dress code, even when compared to other faculties (Dentistry for example) who are not allowed to wear jeans except for one day a week, however, I would recommend pulling out all the stops on the White coat ceremony day (or at least seem presentable). It is a day designed to introduce you to your colleagues, teachers, the dean and other staff, and despite what others say, people are always talking note of how you present yourself so its best to start off on the right foot. There are some people that you will see that try to maintain a professional standard all the time, although there are a lot that try...one guy in my class seems to do it consistently everyday. I am sure he will talk to your class and tell you how embarrassing that the dentistry students dress better than the medical students, and how most people think the dentistry students are the med students and the med students are just homeless people that hang around the brodie center. The rest of the week is casual. One individual in my class wore a suit on the first day of O-Week and completely stood out.
Renin
Don't worry. No matter how poorly you dress, you won't dress more poorly than me.
