missy10
can we opt out of this fee: USC Health Plan 96.00 We could at McMaster if we were still covered under our parents plan... which I am until I turn 25... so like all of medical school for me practically! So i was wondering if we could opt out of this at UWO as well and get that 96$ back to buy a textbook or something lol Thanks!
MillerTime
Opt out of it to save $96 and buy a textbook? No, not allowed. Opting out and using the $96 to buy alcohol/beer? Allowed. Yeah, you can opt out, just like most other schools, can't remember how exactly, but I remember there being some info somewhere on the uwo website I think. It'll be something that you pay with your tuition, but then get reimbursed later. Sucks if you're not under 25 anymore though, because the undergraduate health plan that we get doesn't cover things like dental...boourns. can we opt out of this fee: USC Health Plan 96.00 We could at McMaster if we were still covered under our parents plan... which I am until I turn 25... so like all of medical school for me practically! waterluv
i think as long as you show them that you are covered by some other plan (like your parents'?) you can opt out for sure. you can also get refund for the bus pass if you drive to school. I know some ppl used the money to get parking pass instead :-)

I know some ppl used the money to get parking pass instead :-) Really? That's new then. They used to be really sticky about that. London Transit argued that in order to grant a discounted pass to students there had to be a sufficient volume of passes sold, and thus the bus pass was mandatory. Cool. I was also under the same impression, that the bus pass is mandatory. I remember being told that last year, and also I thought I remembered hearing the same thing during the referendum in the second half of last year when we were voting on keeping the bus pass for an increased cost. I was pretty sure that you can't opt out of the bus pass.

optimist786
How would I go about getting the bus pass? Is it just the student ID that's considered a pass?
ploughboy
How would I go about getting the bus pass? Is it just the student ID that's considered a pass? It's a separate pass that has your student number on it and needs to be shown with your photo ID. There's always a huge line to pick them up in the USC the first week of Sept. I don't know if you can pick it up early, since you have to have your student card to pick it up.
Rayven
Does anyone else dislike having to pay for mandatory bus passes? They've been trying to push for a mandatory bus pass at UofT's 3 campuses for some time now. I think it's ridiculous since the Scarborough and Mississauga campuses are over 50% commuters many of which drive or have no access to the TTC (ie 905'ers). The health plan opt out at schools is also rather ridiculous imo. Why do we have to be covered? What happened to freedom? It seems like these insurance companies must make a killing striking up contracts with various post secondary schools. Anyways, sorry, it was off-topic sort of but I had to rant.
