mattg
For in-course scholarships, what is best to list under 'when received' and 'duration'? Do you put the year in which the marks were achieved, or the year in which the money is put towards your tuition?
thatonekid
I would think it would be for the year in which the money is actually being put towards your tuition, since that's the year you're actually receiving the award.
mattg
what about something like dean's honour roll.. i guess the duration of that would be the duration of the year in which the marks were achieved? But it isn't technically received until afterwards, once your final marks come in... i'm not sure, it's a bit confusing... any thoughts on stuff like this? thatonekid
For Dean's Honour Roll it would be the year that you got the grades. I don't know where attend school, but at my university, it says "Dean's List for 2008-2009" for the past school year. So that would be the duration (Sept 2008-May 2009). mattg
thanks... by the way, on a side note, i have been wondering... you mentioned the schoolyear is Sept-May... is that what is generally considered the schoolyear? I thought it was Sept-April (I've never had classes go into May), but I have been seeing Sept-May in some examples in omsas...
thatonekid
I think it's just a common sense thing. You have to remember that something like over 5000 people are filling out an OMSAS app and not everyone will fill it out the same way/in the same format. Use whatever makes the most sense for your university. Some schools will end in April and some in May. Actually, now that I think about it, my school does end in April! Guess I should think before I type next time!

Although classes end in April, the university's academic year usually ends at the end of May, as graduation and convocations are usually scheduled at the end of May. SpicyNoodles
I'm wondering how most people figured out what the competition for each of their awards was like... For highschool awards, I would just state for competition that out of all students in grade 12, one award was given. I know it sounds vague though.. For NSERC awards...does anyone have a clue what the competition is like for the URSA? Thanks for your responses in advance, Spice
