Cndngirl118
I have a question about listing activities in the Non-academic portion. If I was on the executive team for a club and I was involved in various activities as an exec....how can I describe all those within the 350 character count? Are you guys breaking up all of your activities, or just trying to write about them in a concise manner? Thanks!
future_doc
being an outsider of UBC, here goes: leadership role on x university team as Pres., VP & Secretary over 4 years preparing for and presiding at Exec and membership meetings, plannig evants, funding, recruitment and generally ensuring the club ran smoothly with maximum participation. Memebership grew over 50% during my tenure. I did not count characters but bet it is under 350 characters.
isaiah4110
i didn't break up activities that I did in one particular position. I just summarized it up like, "promoted and directed various events at school".. or you could mention one or two events that especially stands out or u had a lot of responsibilitles
VitaminC
I found that if I did go over the 350 characters, there was a lot of unnecessary/redundant phrases I could easily cut. I don't think they would be particularly adverse to you splitting up activities, but I tried my best to keep it concise and under the 350-character limit. They did set the limit for a reason, but at the same time, there are always loopholes to every rule if you must!
Cndngirl118
Thanks for the feedback! I guess we don't really have to get into specifics of events we held etc..unless they were extremely significant.
future_doc
overview is more important than specifics, like a short obit, lol
Cndngirl118
lol, that's true. I also have another quick question. If I took part in similar actitivies more than once...how do I write the dates for that? For example say I attended leadership conferences for 3 summers straight, and although they were under the same organization..each summer was a bit different. How do I put start date and end date for something like that? I want to only write down the confernce as one activity, but I'm not sure what to do about the dates. Thanks again! Cndngirl118
Interesting conference lol. But for UBC we have a pull down menu thing to choose a start date and than to choose an end date. I'm not sure if I should put the start date as the start date for the first confernce and the end date as the end date of the third conference, and than mention in the description portion that they were just a few days long each summer? Thanks!
future_doc
Yes, that is the way to go. You shall have covered the full ground completely and with conciseness.
VitaminC
Yup, that's what I'm doing too. And I think they should gather from our indicated hours that it wasn't actually 4 years worth, but closer to 4 summers worth, of hours spent at the conference.
