bsm
Should you take 6 courses (instead of the required 5) so you have the flexibility to drop one?
Turkelton
I would take 6. I took 6 last term and ended up with 3 courses in the 80's, 2 in the 90's and my 4th year immunology killed me with a mid 70. Luckily my GPA still ended up being 3.8ish since you can drop 1 if you take 6 courses. But remember that this rule only applies to UWO med. Other schools will take all 6 for GPA. Also, I would recommend a VERY birdy course as a 6th since it's pretty tough to balance 6 courses especially if you have labs and are volunteering/working etc. I took Intro to Tourism as a 6th and was very glad I did after walking out of my Immuno final. ploughboy
I did my undergrad in engineering where everycourse had the same average, but the "easy" ones just had less/simpler material. Go for the courses that have a higher median GPA regardless of workload (and make sure you're well to the right of the bell curve). If you're set on UWO, overload and take 6 courses. If I were in your shoes, I would seriously overload my schedule with potential bird courses and also spend the first or two week of classes also attending lectures for any course that I was potentially interested. Get a sense of which courses will give you a high GPA and try and add them to your schedule. By the add/drop deadline, winnow down to 5-6 courses that you feel that you can do well in. /UW engineer //loopy from night shifts ///Godiva was a lady who through Coventry did ride... Well thats the thing, are some classes actually known to have a higher class average? If so, I dont see why everyone wouldn't try to take that course. beng
I took a fifth year this past year at a different school, but I think I can offer some advice. You're obviously doing this year for a reason, so be sure to reflect OFTEN on why you are doing it and what you need to get out of it. Figure out why you didn't do as well as you would have liked in your first four years, and change it. Frankly, if you're going to invest all the time and money you shouldn't even consider messing it up. Do what you have to do, and do it well. bsm
Well sometimes you just run into bad luck.... Look at Turkelton who obviously can get high grades, got a 75 in a course just because one bad exam
Rayven
lol.. don't you have your own thread..? Anyways, just go check the fine details on the Queen's and Western websites about what's considered a "special year". My only concern is I think I may have remember reading that a "special year" had to directly proceed after your 4th year... but then again, I could be wrong, as I often am.
