International or Non residents

Recommended Posts

Its probably a late to be asking this question since Ive already spent about 700 US dollars on the app process.....but are Canadians considered Non residents or Internationals? From reading Med school websites, I think we are non residents, and looking at MSAR, I hope like hell we are non residents....but anyone know this for a fact???:o

It often depends on the school. Some schools consider Canadians to be out of state residents and others consider Canadians to be international students.

Each school's individual website often tells you whether Canadians are OOS or IS, but you can always email/call to verify.

Yea. it really depends on the school. Private schools don't care really in the sense that it doesn't hurt your application if you're Canadian. But Public Schools may be a difference story. For example at U Michigan, Canadians are considered international and they will not accept international students (but they tell you after you have paid the secondary fee). Best thing to do is email/call all the schools like c17h said because then you'll know exactly where you stand.
