eyeopener
I was looking at the grading scale, and saw that for University of Calgary/Alberta, OMSAS counts an A as a 3.9; that lowers my cumulative GPA from a 3.72 to a 3.68, and my best two years from a 3.78 to a 3.73, which is possibly out of cutoff range for Queens/U of T. The standardizations they provide aren't so beneficial! Why do they do this?
thereisnotry
Sigh... I am in the same boat as you are. At McGill pre-2001-ish, they posted number AND letter grades. OMSAS makes any A (which is 85+, and it was virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get an A higher than an 86 in most non-science courses) that is less than 93% a 3.9. I'm not sure why they do this. U of T used to run under a 4.3 system i.e. an 80 - 84 = 3.7 for UT and OMSAS 85 - 89 = 4.0 for UT and 3.9 for OMSAS 90+ = 4.3 for UT and 4.0 for OMSAS Then they eliminated the 4.3 and just made it a 4.0 system. I could have a 4.0 at MUN and a 3.6 with OMSAS. This is how they try and even out the grading differences.
