Albertan10
i know at mcgill they dont allow students to extend their undergrad program longer than it would take to graduate taking a full course load. Im also aware that they allow students to pursue a 2nd undergrad, and they only look at the most recent one. I was wondering if anyone knew for certain whether or not they allow students to basically take extra courses to boost their GPA. if so is there certain year courses that i have to take (eg 300 level)? thanks in advance
123coco
I e-mailed them about a similar situation (courseload avg. 14.5 one year as appose to 15.0) and this is a portion of the answer in an e-mail from adcom "The Admissions Office screens for students who complete their degree/program in the allotted time, namely at an average of 15 credits per semester or the equivalent of 15 semester hours. The purpose for this is to see if the applicant can handle a full, intensive, set four-year medical curriculum. It is also to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly. Applicants who extend the length of their program (e.g. take 5 years to complete a four-year degree) significantly reduce their chance of acceptance. As a general rule of thumb, the average credit-load of regular sessions should calculate to no less than 14.8 (15.0 is recommended). Applicants who have a lower number, or who have conducted part-time studies at any point in their program/degree, may wish to include an explanation as part of a separate letter of extenuating circumstances. Applicants who have followed the syllabus of their program, yet still have more than one instance of less than 15 semester hours (e.g. Co-op programs) should submit the program/degree requirements for their application dossier, giving a explanation of their program/degree outline from their institution. So basically if you only did one semester at less than 15 credits, then you are still eligible." I think as long as you maintained a 15 courseload in every semester you're safe even if you it took you 5 v. 4 years....but don't take my answer as being absolute, ask them...they are super friendly and reply within 48 hrs. good luck ________ Hotbox Vaporizers
