Careers: Next Generation Q

Recommended Posts

Hey, I am turning 16 tomorrow (YAY!) haha, anyways - I was thinking of trying to get into the "Careers: Next Generation, Heath Services Youth Initiative" program next summer - I just started grade 11.

I really want to go into medicine, and I was thinking of going into Pediactrics, so I want to see if I can do the program at the Alberta Children's Hospital (I live in Calgary)

Have any of you participated in this program?

and do you have any tips?

thanks :)

wow happy birthday. It's frightening to see people preparing for medicine at such a young age.

I was part of Careers: The Next Generation a long time ago. What I would recommend for you is to keep contact information from your employer and Careers. Also, if possible, get a letter from your employer detailing your duties and how many hours you did with a contact information.

The reason is I had a lot of trouble hunting down my verifier for Careers for my med apps, almost to the point where I couldn't find anyone since Careers doesn't keep very good records and my original supervisor left. Thankfully I found a upper management individual who remembered me. Anyways the lesson is make sure to keep your records and have some sort of documentation that you can use come med school application time.

Btw the program was amazing, highly recommended!

hihi

i also was a part of the CAREERS: next gen program (coming up to) 3 years ago.. it was absolutely amazing. in fact, i still work on the unit (casual), but still, i think it looks good. even if it doesn't help the med application, it's still worth the amazing experience. i have yet to apply for med, but i am sure hoping that the program/my job on the unit will help me out!
