igeorgex
I heard a rumour that if you score above 30 on your MCAT, and your distribution isn't even (10+ in each section), then Queens will still consider you for an interview if one of your marks is a 9 In my case, I've got 11/9/S/11 so 31S, and I don't know if I should apply to Queens because I know from the past cutoffs they would like a 10 in each section. But since my score is >30, will my 9 in VR not be a big deal...? For reference, my cGPA is 3.80 so I think I'd make it past the GPA cutoff but I don't know if I'd get past the MCAT cutoff Also, is it true that once you're past these cutoffs it's just your interview and autobio sketch that count? Thanks!!

magiman
i think the cutoffs from last year were. 9/10/9 Q ?
Bets
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you check older posts, I think the MCAT cutoff this past year was that you had to have a total of 31. This correlates with someone I know that didn't get an interview with a 9VR, 10BS, 11PS R. Their gpa was really high and would have definitely qualified. grapz
I'm pretty sure there is both a total cutoff and individual cutoffs. Seems like last year u needed at least a 9/10/9 Q in each section and a 31 or 32 +
supafield
lol this question sure comes up a lot. After tediously looking at everyones mcat scores last year while I was waiting to see whether I would get an interview it seemed to be... 9 (PS), 10 (VR), 9 (BS) Q (WS) 31 (Overall) There were a select few that had a 9 (VR) and really really high sciences (the person I personally knew had 13 (PS), 15 (BS)) that were put on a waitlist for an interview and eventually got called to interview. It would seem the only thing they were willing to forgive was a 9 in VR if you had high sciences. Perhaps there was more to it... but that's what the available information suggests from people who posted here last year. The year before that was different though, so even if these cutoffs above are right for last year, it could be different this year.

Get spots in other countries? just curious. Wow....before i started studying for the MCAT I had no idea VR was KING. Jeez. kinda pitiful that something like 12-9-12 wouldn't cut it. Typical Premed
I know for sure that they were firm on the WS cutoff of Q with no exceptions. I didn't get an interview last year and I had a 36P (12PS, 10VR, 14BS).

md3
But if one is slightly below the cut off in the Verbal section, and has a high enough score on the sciences (like that of the poster above), looks like they are willing to consider them-atleast based on what people have posted on this forum. Looks like the WS is set in stone to them and it happens to be the one section that is the least objectively scored on the MCAT.
health_matters
I am really, really nervous. I have a great score but a Q in the writing sample. Let's hope they don't do that insane R thing again.

sv3
That's gonna be it. i'll be hoping for VR to hit 9. I'm a grad applicant so my MCAT score drove a stake through my heart. (9-VR, 14-PS,11-BS, Q). I guess 1-2 questions on VR will keep me from an interview. Lovely.

sv3
I think VR=9 is a pretty reasonable cut-off for Queen's this cycle, although I doubt UWO's VR=10 cut-off will budge. why the differing outlook? not that i can apply to uwo anyway for me its real painful, cause i can only apply to UT and queens cause of a low gpa. so losing queens, means losing 50% of my schools. Plus, if my next score on VR dips below 8, it'll burn worse seeing as how UT takes the most recent i dont think queens goes below 10 on VR though. then they'd have to interview 2000 people! i wish it were true. i didnt imagine pulling a 14 on PS and after seeing my score, i was just shocked, a 34 without making cuts at queens. i didnt imagine that. I hadnt touched science since early 2000s.

I hadnt touched science since early 2000s. Why the differing outlook? Because I can't see UWO's cut-offs dropping after having been established in this passed application cycle. Every cycle the applicants become more qualified, not less. At the same time, VR=11 would curtail the application pool in excess, since 90th+ percentile scores in VR are exceedingly rare (especially when compared to similar scores in the science sections). You must believe this as well, to some extent, since it doesn't appear that you applied to UWO this cycle...right? (i.e. you have VR=9 and didn't apply to UWO since last cycle's cut-off was VR=10, despite meeting/exceeding the other section cut-offs). Of course it is possible that VR=10 becomes the new cut-off this year for Queen's. I believe, however, it is reasonable to expect it to remain at VR=9 again this cycle. Your composite MCAT score is excellent, around 90th percentile if I remember correctly, and your PS score is outstanding. Keep in mind that Queen's typically interviews nearly twice the amount of applicants that UWO does...hence the higher cut-offs at UWO (another reason possibly supporting another VR=9 cut-off at Queen's this cycle).
