MedStudent88
Hey Guys, I am sorry if this is a really basic question, but seeing as how i have never applied b4 ... I am really perplexed as to how the scoring system works From what I understand: When you submit your applications... you have to meet the "minimum Requirement" based on statistics this was roughly : Albertan - 68.4374 and Non-Albertan - 74.5626. So does this mean if... you make this cut off ... you're eligible for the full file review? Which is based according to: ACADEMIC RECORD 50% EXTRACURRICULAR, VOLUNTEER AND EMPLOYMENT ACTIVITIES 25% MCAT 15% REFERENCE LETTERS 10% After these scores you are then invited for an interview?? I am confused ... what is the point of this formula? 62.517 (GPA) + 12.122 (MCAT,VR) + 6.757(MCAT,BS) --> Also if someone can tell me how do you go about using it. For example: My 2 best year GPA is 3.95 and my BS and VR is 10 / 10. How would that be calculated. Sorry if this has been asked before... but i couldnt find it anywhere

F That formula is to narrow down the OOP pool for review. They apply that formula to all OOP applicants and take the top 250 scores and review their files fully while throwing the rest out. It's then the score on the full file review that determines whether you actually interview or not. The cutoff last year just to get review was a 451.00 I believe... I may be wrong though

Vidhya
As was previously mentioned, the formula is only used for OOP applicants to determine who receives a full file review. However, ALL Albertan applicants receive a full file review, so if you're in-province that formula does not apply to you. The full file review uses this breakdown to arrive at the pre-interview scores: ACADEMIC RECORD 50% EXTRACURRICULAR, VOLUNTEER AND EMPLOYMENT ACTIVITIES 25% MCAT 15% REFERENCE LETTERS 10% The cutoffs for interview last year based on this breakdown were the (Albertan - 68.4374 and Non-Albertan - 74.5626) scores that you listed. I hope this helps.

HBP
How will they convert a UofT GPA that has both percentages + letters? My 2 year GPA drops significantly if they use percentages (takes me from 453-->443). Also, do they convert each individual course on the scale, or take the average of your year and convert it? I ask because I've never seen someone get .5's on a transcript.
LostLamb
they convert individual courses for GPA. if a % is there, they use the % for calculation. I got a zero for a course because it had a % mark, but if my transcript only had a letter grade, i would have gotten something for it....
HBP
Wow... that's pretty intense I thought if they only look at best 2 years for full-file review I might have a shot I wonder if I should bother with a 443...
NewfieMike
I would, thats pretty close to last years cutoff
asem26
hey guys i had a couple of questions and would greatly appreciate the help. With that OOP formula; is it you enter your scores into the application form under transcript and then just average ur 2 best years and plug into formula? i recieved a 13 on VR and 12 on BS with a two best year GPA of 3.78...does taht garuntee me an interview? I kno you are all bz and think im trollin or watever it is but im serious. for some reason im REALLY CONFUSED by all these quotas UC has lol. also do they give any preferances for graduate students? thanks alot for whoever can take a minute to answer. greatly appreciated. LostLamb
There is never a guarantee. Take your 2 year GPA, put it in the formula with you BS and VR scores, and see what number you get. It seems everyone's talking about 451 being the 'magic' number in past years. Maybe it will be again this year, maybe not. As far as I know, there is no preference for graduate applicants. Can't help you further because I am not OOP. hey guys i had a couple of questions and would greatly appreciate the help.
