Ready to submit...

So I'm prepared to submit my applications but I'm quite nervous over my academic referee--she is no longer responding to messages (I think she is not teaching this semester!). Should I submit and just wait to see if she has submitted a reference? Or should I change my referee and permit a professor (who is ready and willing to submit a reference right now!) to do it? I do not wish to keep my other professor waiting too long!

Are you leaving phone messages?

She's a part-time professor (I actually think last year was her first)--only her MUN address is available. I've contacted the school and they have no info to give me (this is typical).

But... if you put her down as your ref, don't you need her phone information?

I used the business department's phone #--it's what they told me to do.

She's not even listed as faculty anymore!

Hmm...

Tough spot... tried looking her up in the phone book? Google her name... google her email address

I don't think you should have another reference until you're sure she will not be writing one.

She's been deleted off of the faculty base and is not googleable (lol). I contacted OMSAS and they suggested changing the name if I could not contact her.

That sounds like a really unfortunate situation. If it were me (and this is only my opinion), I would switch to the other ref that already said they would write you a letter. That way, you can be sure that OMSAS gets 3 letters. Even if the original person did send a letter to OMSAS, they would just throw it away since it's not one of the 3 listed referees on your app.

I just changed the reference! This academic reference would be stronger anyhow--he's a full-time, big-shot business prof who has taught me more than one course (he has seen my weak points and my strong points--if there are any!).

Phew. Thanks--I just needed the support, I guess.
