UBCPreMed Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Has anyone heard about this? I got an invite in the mail but usually honour societies don't ask for $90 if I'm not mistaken... Would it look good on the UBC Med application?
AndreaM Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 I looked into it when I was in school and it seemed more like a cash grab than an actual organization, so I didn't bother.
VitaminC Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 I've been getting their mail too and I just ignore it. Unless you plan to actually be involved as an exec and do something within the society, I wouldn't join it. There's a ton of equally good information sessions out there if you want to know more about admissions. And your transcript alone says what kinds of grades you're getting. So I don't see a point in paying $100 for being on a mailing list.
Destiny Gundam Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 everyone is in GK. everyone plus even more ppl QUALIFY to be in GK. Agreed with above, unless this is the club u wanna get involved with, dont waste your time. If i were u i'd pick a club that does stuff you're genuinely intrested in... eg. msfubc, redcross, golf club, etc.

Would it look good on the UBC Med application? Its only purpose is to grab money from top students who are stupid enough to give them the money. The universities should not give them names/addresses of Dean's List names, etc as the universities by inadvertance are aiding and abetting these scammers. The executives take huge salaries and perks but they do nothing for you, you cannot get a list of other members, contact addresses, etc.

Geneticist Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Don't you get access to apply to exclusive scholarships?
future_doc Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Meaningless garbage that is totally totally worthless. Is this clear enough? And the universities are at fault for passing information to the scammers, shame on the universities for aiding and abetting scams against their own students. They should know better.
