Dinan
Firstly, I want to start off by saying that I have searched the discussion forums many times and have not found concrete evidence of what is required to get an interview at UWO dentistry. So thank you to all who reply to this post with helpful information I'm writing the DAT this Nov so I am anticipating getting a better score then I did last time I wrote. Dare I admit that some of my sections were bad:confused: I'm wondering if there is anyone that knows what I have to score on the DAT to "AT LEAST" get me the interview? (I apologize in advance since I'm guessing this question is probably brought up on a daily basis?). However, I have heard of people that are competitive and don't even get the interview for reasons I cant understand. Here are my stats for application: Best two years (as I understand UWO looks at this) = % 85.10 HBSc and a MSc in Physiology from U of T. DAT: TBD Anyone know what my chances of an interview are given that I get the minimums on the DAT.... and what those minimums should be? Thanks a lot guys.... I appreciate your responses:)
CharlieSixx
Two years ago (Class of 2012) the interview cut off was: Best 2 year average: 83% Reading Comprehension on the DAT (RC): 18 Last year (Class of 2013) the RC was 18 as well. UWO only looks at your best 2 year average and reading comprehension scores to send out interview requests. However, when making final selections they look at best 2 year average, interview scores and the Academic Average from the DAT (average of RC, Chem and Bio sections)
Dinan
Great CharlieSix... thanks for the info.... I guess is it that as long as you make the cutoff in relation to the applicant pool.... you get an interview? Looks like I should at least have RC 19 to 20 to be sort of safe. Thanks again
seann
Ok, on the UWO web site says something in the lines of "you need over 80% in your best 2 years to be competetive" but does this mean the average of the 2 or in each one? Say I have 78 in 1 year and 85 in another, does this qualify?
CharlieSixx
Yes. It is the average of the 2 years that matters. However, if you have a 90 in second year and then a 70 in third year they may feel differently, because UWO also considers trend. Although, I think that may only be looked at when making the final decision and not for the interview. But, like I said above you will probably need above an 83% average in both years combined with a RC of >18 to get an interview.
seann
Hey, I'm not sure exactly about the UWO conversion scale but at Saskatoon they use this one, I think they should be the same: Q. Only letter grades are shown on my institution’s official transcript. How do you determine the average for admission purposes?A. The College of Dentistry shall be guided by the University of Saskatchewan Post-Secondary Grading Systems grade conversion chart to convert letter grades to percentage grades. The letter grade conversions are: A+ = 93% A = 88% A- = 83% B+ = 78% B = 75% B- = 73% C+ = 68% C = 65% C- = 63% D+ = 58% D = 55% D- = 53%
Dinan
You're probably correct Sean although I remember seeing "A" represented by 87 (close enough anyways) In terms of meeting the requirements for an interview... Im not sure whether it is just the reading comp that needs to be met. Certainly Im assuming the Survey of sciences is also important but whether a minimum needs to be obtained for an interview is something Im not sure about and if anyone can comment on it, it would be helpful. Thanks again.
thunderwolf
with gpa in regards to the 4 point scale... how does western do the conversions... sorry if this has been covered... for instance 2 years: 3.96 and 3.97 It says that they follow the OMSAS scale BUT if your school already uses percentage grades do they just keep them the same? (ie no conversion necessary) ________ Arab Cooking
