DOC_Ma
Ok for a long time I have thought that for 4th year students, you only need a COMBINATION of 300 and 400 lvl courses to get that 60% course load corresponding to your currently year of study. Today I called the admission's office of uoft the lady doesnt seem to know this for sure, she said for 4th year students we need 60% of 4th year courses exclusively not a combination of 300 and 400 lvl courses. Then I told her that the FAQ of uoft says that I won't be penalized even if I dont have 60% of the course load and she said MAYBE its okay........ and then she told me to just follow the website . So obviously she doesn`t know the answer. I just want to see if anyone here on this forum has similar experience and can confirm it is okay to have a combination of 300 and 400 courses in my 4th year to get that 60% course load thing, or is it exclusively 400lvl course in your 4th year? This is for uoft, I know other schools like western allows you to take a combo of 300 and 400 lvl courses in 4th year

w301088563
I've heard that a 60% course load of 300/400 level course combinations are acceptable for 3, 4th year, regardless of what the secretary mentioned.
thatonekid
It is 60% 3rd/4th year courses combined. I emailed UofT and that's what they told me. It's also on their website: "Applicants in the fourth year of their program should be enrolled in a majority of courses at the third- and fourth-year levels." http://www.md.utoronto.ca/admissions/information/requirements/Undergraduate_Applicants.htm

thatonekid
No problem. I had actually emailed UofT admissions and hadn't received a reply! So, I emailed Deborah Coombs directly and got my answer within 48 hours. She's very helpful and has an admissions blog. You can read the entry on course levels if you want to. http://utmedadmissions.wordpress.com/2009/09/17/course-levels/

She kinda screwed my friend up, now my friend has 3x400 lvl courses instead of her preferable 300lvl courses. I am glad I kept my schedule. DOC_Ma
I've got 7/10 400 level courses Loooool I calculated my credits, I will have 3x400 lvl courses and 3x300 lvl courses in my 4th year, I believe that's acceptable. 7x400 lvl courses wow that seems a little heavy to me
hkmedic
Ya, I was freaking out about this 'requirement' too, as I am a 4th year student, but took most of my 300/400 levels courses in 3rd year, and my program only has a total of 11/40 program specific required courses at the 300/400 level... but I have taken quite a few 200/300 level electives from other faculties. Ditto to others, when I called the admissions office, they said as long as your 3rd and 4th years is 60% 300/400 level courses, it is fine. They just don't want you to be taking all first year bird courses in your last year, just to boost your GPA or whatever.
