confusion on a research classification.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

If you were a summer research student, with an award, given out by a specific dept, would you list it under Award, Employment AND Research??

I.e.

Award: NSERC

Employment: Dept of Physiology

Research: Summer Studnet @ Mol.Tox lab.

Is this really overkill?? Putting down the same expereince under 3 categories. I understand the award can be separate...but should I choose between employment and research?

Thx!

i listed my nserc as an award and my research that i did as part of the scholarship under research... employment specifically says not to list research i believe... although i must admit, i know where you're coming from (if its the same thing i was thinking)... that there will appear to be a hole in your summer employment? i guess they figure a lot of people do research, and will note summer research employment in the research section also

Well, if you didn't really have a publication or what not from this research experience, would you still list it as research??

Also, what if you had a presenation/psoter as part of this program...can you list that as a separate thing under the category??

Well not all research leads to publication, but it's still very valid research.

I would definitely say that listing one thing as three is overkill; I had thought before that an NSERC summer gig only went down as one thing - an award. Now that I know better I'll put it down as research and an award... but also putting it as employment is too much and may be viewed as deceptive.

I was also wondering about the publication/presentation/poster/conference that is due to an NSERC experience.
