Yea...figured it out...once i get my M.D. + residency,if the situation doesn't become better in quebec,i may move to other places,ontario,or even the U.S.

So much open posts in quebec...(almost 50% of specialists left in the last 8 years.)

The "Association des médecins spécialistes du québec" will sue the government in a few months to get better salaries/advantages...

A family doc in QC gets around 140-160k/year.

A family doc in other parts of canada gets ATLEAST 190k/year,and it goes up fast.

It's even more unrealistic for specialists in QC...

That's becoming pretty ridiculous...so yea,in a few years,i'll make a choice.

Last year, pre-expenses, on average, a family med billed 233K, and it keeps on going up!

  • 2 weeks later...

Also, for the M.B.A.,anyone who studied marketing + M.B.A. gets ATLEAST 110k/year at start + a signing bonus of about 15-30k...it's also less stressfull than a physician,so if money is your main idea,go for it,not M.D...

I don't know why people have the misconception that getting an MBA= instant millionaire, but it's definitely not the case. Here, from The Ivey School of Business MBA annual report(one of the top in Canada) http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/about/annual_report.pdf you can see the highest in the ENTIRE class including signing bonus etc. was $135 000, and the average was just over $100 000...

Maybe when you're a consultant in pharmacogenetic for a pharmaceutical company ?

No, these are salaries given by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec. It's public... Medical geneticists don't do procedures and they spend a lot of time with patients. Because of that, they are often salaried in an hospital setting. I'm surprised some billed as much as 400 000$. Maybe when you are the head of a cytogenetics lab or just work a lot, I don't know.

I agree with you for the most part, BUT there is a caveat.

These are basically first jobs post MBA - the corporate ladder can very rapidly climb. For proven employees in certain fields, salaries can triple and quadruple within 5 years.

Lastly, for some of these jobs, the end of year bonus can be a huge part of the final income, and is not included.

An MBA however does not guarantee a high income, or a stable job, as medicine does. But the financial upside can be huge 5-10 yrs post MBA. I guarantee that at least a few of those grads will be making 1 million + within 5 yrs, and that alot will be over 500K.
