eligible to apply to canadian med school during first year of study abroad

hey guys,

I have heard that as a first year international medical student (i.e. a Canadian studying in Ireland), you are still eligible to apply to canadian medical schools for entry the following year - can anyone verify this information for me?

Why not ask just ask a med school directly and then, you get it from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Yes, you can. I had classmates of mine leave medical school after 1 year when they were accepted into Canadian schools.

And can you recall which canadian schools they transferred to?

I know of someone who left SABA when they got into MUN, their home province school. They didn't transfer though.. had to start again from scratch- but I'm assuming you know that! I also know of someone who was doing med in the czech and was accepted to Dal, same deal- started again from MED1.

I know 2 students who went to UBC after attending a year of school in Ireland. Of course as the person above said, they started over from year 1.

do you HAVE to notify the school that you are applying to (UBC in this case) if you are already in a medical school. If so, does that affect the school's decision is calling you for an interview and, ultimately, considering you?

Yes, most applications have a section where they ask if you are in, or have ever been enrolled in a medical school. I think it doesn't really affect your position. If anything it might help a tiny bit if you do well in your courses, but likely it doesn't affect it either way.
