Any grad students out there?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am in my first year of MSc and will be applying to d-school next year. I was wondering if there are any grad students interviewed at any d-schools this year in Canada (and/or States) particularly at UofT? and what were your stats to get an interview (like GPA, any publications and etc)?

I have read on this forum that Uof T likes grad students  but I am not too sure if this is actually true and if there are grad students on this forum actually got an interview and get accepted eventually(maybe too early for acceptance yet)?

Any tips for current masters student here or comments would be helpful!

Thanks guys :)

I have a MSc from U of T and got accepted into U of T Dentistry. I believe that you are considered in a different pool so there's "less" competition. Some believe that they give you extra points (which I think UWO) does

I think that having research experience will help a lot. It shows a lot of maturity and experience which a lot of the faculty want (not saying that 3rd years who get in aren't mature ...). Additionally, lots of researchers would prefer to give summer research jobs to ppl with MSc or PhD vs undergrads who have had no real lab experience.

So in terms of improving your application ... PUBLISH lol

Hey amalgam,

What did you do your masters in at UFT? Just curious.

I didn't get into UFT this year and waitlisted for Western. So I was considering doing my masters.

Do you think it would be better to do a masters vs staying an extra year in undergrad? Or starting another undergrad program? Or working?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

I can't speak for myself, but have colleague that had a MSc. My only question would be in order to get bonus point (UWO) or be considered in a seperate app. pool (UT). you have to be in your final year of your MSc, and ready to defense (from my friend who went thru MSc).

My question would be are you sure you can finish your Research based MSc in 1 year. (It is doable, but can be difficult depends on the type of project)
