boobiman
For people that have been interviewed this year, what is the safest minimal GPA and MCAT to have for next year. I know that the cut-offs can change without notice, but from the numbers seen this year, what would you guys say it is. Thanks ps. im interested in the cgpa cutoff since ill be applying as a 3rd year applicant next year.

I don't think there were any interview offers for applicants with <30 MCAT scores.

Sadly, I don't think this is true Rejected pre-interview with VR=11 PS=12 WS=R BS=9 GPA (two years) ~ 3.
sfinch
The safest bet is probably the following. cGPA 3.75, last 2 years 3.80 MCAT Total 33, V-11, B-11, P10, WS-R That pretty much would guarantee an interview I would think highest cgpa seems to be 3.69 in previous years highest last 2 years appears to be 3.78ish in previous years highest MCAT total score required has been 32 in previous years UWO has used 11 cutoffs for V and B, meaning another med school could do it WS cutoff will never go above R. 33R with min 11 in V/B and 10P with cGPA >3.75 would essentially guarantee an interview. Was it BS=10? I don't remember coming across any posts that would indicated that; also, I figured that the VR=10+WS=R combo would have been enough to sufficiently trim down the applicant pool. supafield
We had evidence based on posts that a 9 PS worked... but I don't know if we ever came across a score that was good everywhere and with a 9 in bio.... Perhaps it was 9,10,10 R (30 overall)... Would seem med schools don't particularly care for PS.
dreamer87
cool thread how long have the cutoffs remained in the 3.7 range for queens? i'm wondering if in a couple of years it could jump to a 3.8something

Last year I got an interview with a two year gpa of 3.745.... This year I'm not sure what it was... as I had made my gpa high enough not to worry... But it would seem the trend it to not let the gpa get too high....
nemesis
...Would seem med schools don't particularly care for PS. Not so much that medical schools don't care, but rather that the applicant pool is probably weakest in the Physical Sciences section of the MCAT. The MCAT cutoffs (at least for schools like Western and Queen's) is all about trimming the applicant pool to an appropriate degree, rather than emphasizing a particular academic strength in the interviewees. Perhaps it was 9,10,10 R (30 overall)... Would seem med schools don't particularly care for PS. My understanding from a friend that got in with a 9 in PS is that they interviewed with a 9 only because their total score was 33 or greater. If you have a 9 and less than 33 (I'm told) you're hopeless.
applicant
My understanding from a friend that got in with a 9 in PS is that they interviewed with a 9 only because their total score was 33 or greater. If you have a 9 and less than 33 (I'm told) you're hopeless. This is incorrect. I had an interview at Queen's the past two years with a 9 in physical sciences while also having a cumulative MCAT score of 32.
Andaaz
I know someone who got into Queen's this year with a 28T (9 PS, 9 BS, and 10 VR). And someone else has posted that he or she got an interview with a 3.69 GPA. I think, to a degree, Queen's looks at applications somewhat holistically and not completely formulaically... mattg
hmm... beginning to think that i shouldn't really bother with my score12/8/11/N (B/V/P/W)thnx for the useful info everyone That score won't cut it for Queens or Western, and likely not at Mac (although theoretically it could with an amazing CASper score and GPA)... you have an outside shot at UofT, and Ottawa doesn't consider the MCAT... in all likelihood you are going to have to rewrite the MCAT with regards to whether or not you should apply to Queens, it depends... you almost certainly won't get an interview (<1% chance), but some people might apply anyways, with the mindset that it is only $60, you don't need to do any extra work in the app, and anything is possible (i.e. this year, for whatever reason they decide to set the cutoff at 31 total, or increase the science cutoffs and decrease verbal and writing, etc)... like i said, you almost certainly won't get an interview - it just depends on whether or not $60 is worth hoping for a miracle
ryacha
I have a last 2 years GPA of 3.75, cGPA of 3.43 and MCAT of P14 V12 B13 WS: P I know that P may be a barrier, but do they ever make exceptions or is it a hard line? I'm just as guilty as the rest of you.... but the idea behind stickying this thread was to merely determine the cutoffs via stats. Since there are some minor discrepancies and little work done on the G.P.A. I'm going to make a quick list of all the stats so far... and will ask for the rest of the conversation to take place in http://premed101.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38515&page=25 the thread for discussing the interview.
