Alchemist_Happiness
Hi guys, I've run into a little problem. Basically, U of C has contacted my verifier to check about how many hours I worked at my verifier's lab. Now, I'm pretty sure that I filled out everything correctly, because I checked my OMSAS application and I've listed the dates correctly, but it seems that on my Calgary application, instead of just having my research listed from July 2004 (07/04) to August 2004 (09/04), I have it listed till 2009. That means that I did 20 hours of research every week since July 2004 till 2009! I'm pretty sure that the U of C administration has actually made a mistake (as I said before, I've cross referenced with my Ontario application). They probably switched the 09 and the 04 and thought that I did research till April 2009 instead of August 2004. The problem is that I unfortunately didn't print out a copy of my U of C application, and now it seems that the UCAN application has been taken down, so I can't check what I actually put down. Any idea of how I should go about solving this problem?

yeeha
Best to inform them about the mistake. I am sure they will honour your honesty. Something similar happened to me on my UBC application. The number of hours for one of my activities was in an excess of a few hundred :S I emailed them and they wrote back with a somewhat negative sounding email (they said that it was my responsibility to fully check over the application before submitting) but I felt so much better knowing that I brought it to their attention. LookingForInfo
None of my verifiers have even been contacted (as far as I know)...I know it technically may not mean anything, but I'm definitely not feeling super great about it either. I just hope they haven't thrown out my application quite yet...
Starling
I noticed right before I submitted my application that the website was incorrectly re-calculating the hours I had entered. I e-mailed them about the glitch and hopefully others did as well. So, you're not the only applicant with issues with their website.

To the OP think they should be understanding, people make typos, hit the wrong computer buttons by accident all the time....err, releasing pre-interview scores to those who interviewed rings a bell:p

And I'm sure your application doesn't get auto-shredded if something doesn't look quite right.

iNKT
I have a question regarding how people entered ther activites information. I had one experience where I volunteered for 2 years (year round), then stopped b/c I was in a different city, and then continued for an additional summer upon returning. I basically just indicated my start and end date and there didn't seem to be any opportunity to indicate that hiatus. So I got an e-mail saying that my indicated timeline and what my verifier reported were discrepant. I e-mailed the admissions officer back to explain the situation. I'm really hoping this doesn't destroy my app. Did anyone else have the same problem with reporting the timeline of a particular experience where there was a break in between? The hours were calculated automatically too which didn't help. Did you just enter it as two separate activities?

The hours were calculated automatically too which didn't help. Did you just enter it as two separate activities? I had an somewhat similar experience. I entered it as one activity, but rather than use the total number of hours they gave automatically, I entered the total number of hours myself. I also believe I used some of my description space outlining the time-line during which I did the activity. Alas, as far as I know none of my verifiers were contacted, which as some posters have previously mentioned above makes fear that I'm not really in the running. I entered it as one activity, but rather than use the total number of hours they gave automatically, I entered the total number of hours myself. That's what I did too, and that's where I ran in to trouble. I forget the details, but I think it kept my hours in the summary but changed them when I went into the individual activity description. Super annoying! ETA: I hope this doesn't result in our verifiers getting a bad impression of us. (like if U of C calls them up and says we claimed to work for them for 200 hours when we only did 50 or something)

I wouldn't have just left a figure that was 1.5-2x what I actually did. The system might have done the same thing with my application.
Alchemist_Happiness
Thanks guys for all your help and support. I did manage to check my application online (I was clicking on the link for Current Applicants 2009/2010, instead of the new link). There is still a problem with the date listed, but hopefully this will all be resolved. I wonder-would they really discard your whole application if it turned out there was a typo, even if you had gone through the whole process of interviews and everything? I sincerely hope not. But what ever has to happen, will happen. I didn't know before whether I would get in or not, and I don't know now, so nothing has really changed. I know on a personal level that I didn't try to fudge something or claim I was something I was not, so I'll try to take whatever happens on the chin. It does seem that life has a certain irony to it-it would be really something to have your application nullified because of a typo!
eyeopener
So I got an e-mail saying that my indicated timeline and what my verifier reported were discrepant. Wow, so the Admissions Committee will email you if there was a discrepancy between what you said and what the verifier said? Meaning that if your hours can't be verified, they notify you? maxg
what did the email exactly say?
LookingForInfo
I actually had very similar problems to everyone regarding hours and dates before I submitted. What I did was I called the university and they couldn't fix it from their end either...what they told me to do instead was list the dates and click "one-time" and manually input hours. Personally, this seems a little silly to me since one of my activities listed as "one-time" has 250+ hours (been doing it since I was little but with a number of hiatus').
